Description

Inositol 1,4,5,-trisphosphate receptor

Gene Summary

Enables inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate-sensitive calcium-release channel activity. Involved in several processes, including fatty acid homeostasis; larval feeding behavior; and positive regulation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration. Located in axonal growth cone and smooth endoplasmic reticulum. Is expressed in several structures, including adult thoracic segment; head; imaginal disc; mesoderm; and somatic precursor cell. Used to study obesity. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Gillespie syndrome; isolated anhidrosis with normal sweat glands; neurodegenerative disease (multiple); and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to several human genes including ITPR1 (inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor type 1). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2022]
