3 The FPSi probe, synthesized over three steps starting from commercially available fluorescein, was constructed by attaching tert-butyldiphenylsilyl and thiosemicarbazide (as the specific identification groups for F- and Hg2+) to the skeleton of fluorescein, respectively.
